The Foreign Minister said that the United States’ veto of the Gaza ceasefire proposal in the UN Security Council is ‘disappointing’. Hasan Mahmud.

The minister said these things in a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (February 22). Earlier, the Foreign Minister was met by the ambassadors of Australia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Incidentally, the Arab country of Algeria brought the draft proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza to the UN Security Council on Tuesday. A total of 13 member states of the Security Council voted in favor of the draft ceasefire resolution. The United States was the only country to veto the proposal. And the UK abstained from voting.

At least 9 votes are needed to approve a resolution in the UN Security Council. However, a veto by a permanent member country (US, UK, France, Russia, China) is not allowed.

According to Palestinian Authority estimates, about 29,000 people have been killed so far in the ongoing war. Most of them are women and children. And about 80 percent of the people of the valley have been displaced.

In the briefing, the minister said about the discussion with the ambassador of Australia, there was a discussion with Australia about investment in ICT, leather sector. They have responded positively to this.

The minister said that Australia has been invited to invest in 100 economic zones. Besides, the issue of exporting skilled manpower from Bangladesh was also discussed.

Egypt recognized the independent government of Bangladesh in 1974. The foreign minister said that 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be celebrated in the next few days.

The minister said, Egypt wants to cultivate jute in their country. The country has asked Bangladesh for help in jute cultivation. We have said that we will cooperate fully in this matter.

The minister also said that relations with Saudi Arabia were only about manpower export and Hajj. Now we want to shape this relationship about investment. The government of Saudi Arabia has shown a positive attitude in this regard.

He said that Saudi Arabia was given 300 acres of land in the economic zone for investment in Bangladesh. They have asked for another 300 acres of land.

The foreign minister said in the briefing that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has accepted the invitation to visit Bangladesh, and the matter may be finalized in the second half of this year.

BNP has also announced political programs during Ramadan, in response to a question about this, the minister said, they (BNP) do not mean anything to fasting and Ramadan. It is doubtful whether the political program in Ramadan has the support of its own workers.

He said, this party has already collapsed, whether they will be able to stand upright again, everyone is doubtful.
