/ A source in the Turkish banking sector said that the United States has drawn the attention of many private banks in Turkey to the need to adhere to the sanctions policy against Russia and warned them against the consequences of violating it.
Russian media quoted the source, who requested anonymity, as saying that the American side warned these Turkish banks of the need to carefully check payment transfers from Russia, which reached a threatening tone.
The source added in an interview with the Novosti Agency correspondent: “At the present time, a number of private banks in Turkey are receiving American warnings (regarding transfers from Russia) regarding the need to adhere to the sanctions policy, and this reaches the level of a threat.”
Since January 1, Turkish exporters have been facing banks’ refusal to accept money transfers from Russia.
According to the above-mentioned source, this problem is partly related to US pressure on Turkey regarding sanctions. The Turkish Ministry of Trade is trying to resolve this issue, and dialogue is underway between Moscow and Ankara on this issue.
It is known that Turkish banks, as of September 2022, stopped using the Russian bank card service “Mir”.
