The United States finishes this Tuesday (6) in the lead of the medal table of the Paris 2024 Olympics, with 24 golds, 31 silvers, and 31 bronzes. The country surpassed China, which is right behind with 22 golds, 21 silvers, and 16 bronzes.
Brazil is in 17th position with 13 medals, after Monday, when it achieved gold in the artistic gymnastics floor exercise with Rebeca Andrade and silver and bronze medals in surfing with Tati Weston-Webb and Gabriel Medina, respectively.
Tati and Medina won their medals in the evening, after the competition was postponed due to weather conditions in Teahupo’o.
The captain of women’s surfing achieved a historic feat, being the first Olympic medal for a Brazilian female surfer in the sport. Meanwhile, Medina reached the coveted Olympic podium with a bronze medal in a heat with very few waves, according to the Brazilian Surf Confederation (CBSurf).
Rebeca Andrade’s victory brought on Monday morning gold in the floor event, surpassing American Simone Biles in her performance. With this new podium finish, Rebeca became the greatest Brazilian Olympic medalist of all time.
The country now totals two golds (artistic gymnastics and judo), five silvers and six bronzes.
