Donald Trump towards a new indictment. The former president’s lawyers, Todd Blanche and John Lauro, who are assisting him in the investigation into the attempt to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election, met with special prosecutor Jack Smith. The lawyers have been told they should expect their client to be indicted, NBC News reports, citing two sources.

Trump himself announced last week that he had received a letter notifying him that he is under a grand jury investigation into the January 6, 2021 riot and efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
The meeting took place in the Special Counsel’s offices, with members of Smith’s staff, in Washington DC. The letter received by the former president mentions three federal crimes: disenfranchisement, conspiracy against the United States and manipulation of witnesses, according to lawyers familiar with the contents of the document.
Jack Smith has already secured an indictment against the former president, indicting him in a Florida court for alleged ‘mishandling’ of the nation’s top secrets after he left office. Trump was also indicted in New York this year in a case centered around $130,000 paid to red-light movie star Stormy Daniels during the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign. In both cases, he pleaded not guilty.
Trump later said in a post published on Truth Social that his lawyers had a “productive meeting with the Justice Department” this morning and that the lawyers “explained in detail that I have done nothing wrong and that a prosecuting me would only further destroy our country.” Nbc News reports it. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung called the news reported by NBC News, according to which Trump’s lawyers were told to expect an indictment, “incorrect”.
