The Supreme Court of the United States annulled this Monday (4) the decision of the Colorado Court that left former President Donald Trump ineligible to run in the state, in the 2024 election, for the head of the White House. The businessman is the favorite to represent the Republican Party in the presidential election, scheduled for November.

The judges of the country’s highest court unanimously reversed the decision. In December last year, the Colorado Supreme Court had accepted the argument that the 14th Amendment to the American Constitution disqualified Trump for insurrection due to his participation in instigating the invasion of the Capitol, the seat of the American Legislature, on January 6, 2021 , in what is considered the biggest attack on US democracy in recent history.

Trump is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic President Joe Biden, who is expected to seek re-election. The businessman’s only remaining rival for his party’s nomination is former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.
