Neha Patel was still conscious when paramedics extricated the woman from the white Tesla that had just passed from a highway in California fell over a 76 meter high cliff. During the rescue, Dharmesh Phatel’s wife said to the paramedics: “He wanted to kill us on purpose!” San Mateo District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe told the LA Times on Monday. “She simply said that this was not an accident,” Wagstaffe continued.
Charges were then brought against the 41-year-old on Monday (local time). It reads: attempted murder in three counts. Patel was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of attempted murder and child endangerment after the January 2 accident, but prosecutors held off charging him until he was transferred from the hospital last week. Neha Patel and the two children have now also been able to leave the hospital.
“They are great neighbors”
Patel, a radiologist from Pasadena, was driving the electric vehicle, US media reports. As the man drove a spot on the Pacific Coast Highway known as a “devil’s slide,” his car crashed over the edge of the coastal road. Alongside Patel in the vehicle were his wife Neha and their two children, a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy.
A helicopter was also used for the complex rescue.

All four miraculously survived the accident. Some of them were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but they are out of danger. Patel is being treated at the hospital for his injuries, but once released he will be taken to San Mateo County Jail, California officials said.
The Patels’ neighbors were shocked at the news. “They are great neighbors,” Sarah Walker told KABC. The couple who had an accident had visited both their parents over the holidays and they looked happy when they returned. Neighbor Heather also said they were nice people. “This is really heartbreaking,” said the woman.
