The conclave, which runs through Thursday, is the final step in the process of nominating Harris, 59, and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, 60, for the presidential ticket to face Republican duo Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.

From the first evening, and for hours, congressmen, governors, mayors, celebrities and sympathizers of the Democratic Party from all over the country took turns speaking to express their support for the Harris-Walz candidacy, to praise the electoral platform of the candidate and to list her policies and her positions in favor of the American people throughout her political career.

Making a brief appearance between speaking engagements, Harris expressed her “eternal gratitude” to Joe Biden, an “incredible” president.

The withdrawal of Mr. Biden, 81, from the race for a second term has in fact propelled his vice-president to the forefront of the American political scene, becoming the first woman of color to seek the highest office of the United States.

“Let’s fight for the ideals that are dear to us. And let’s never forget: when we fight, we win!” she told a crowd of supporters who converged on this midwestern American city, a symbol of the working class.

The highlight of the evening was President Joe Biden’s speech, which included a speech by his vice president, reflecting on his accomplishments throughout his term.

Reiterating his support for the Democratic Party nominee, the current White House occupant, visibly moved, praised her integrity, the love she has for her country and the hard work she has done for the prosperity of the American people.

“Kamala is the candidate who can keep our country moving in the right direction, creating jobs, standing up to Big Pharma, while continuing to build homes and help new home buyers,” the president said, urging Americans to “vote for Kamala to beat Trump.”

Earlier, the evening was marked by an intervention by former Secretary of State and unsuccessful candidate for the White House in 2016, Hillary Clinton, who also called on voters to vote for Kamala Harris, a “strong” and “honest” woman, who “cares about the founding principles of our country.”

The Democratic convention continues through Thursday, when Harris is expected to formally accept her party’s nomination. It will be preceded on Wednesday by an acceptance speech from her running mate, Tim Walz.
