It took overcoming the disappointment of Tokyo for the United States to be rewarded in Paris. The American women reclaimed the gold medal in artistic gymnastics teams on a day of reconciliation for Simone Biles.
“It was very emotional and we had fun. Each of us enjoyed our time in the competition and we just did our gymnastics,” analyzed the most decorated gymnast in history.
In the Bercy Arena, Brazil also achieved an unprecedented feat, as they secured their first collective medal in the discipline with the bronze. Meanwhile, the silver went to the Italians, who returned to the podium 100 years later, leaving England out by 0.234 points.
The fourth triumph in the history of the United States was built on numbers, with a final score of 171.296 points, above Italy’s 165.494 points and Brazil’s 164.497 points.
Simone Biles arrived at this final with her left leg taped, due to discomfort in her calf, and still managed to score 14.900 points on vault, 14.400 on uneven bars, 14.366 on beam, and 14.666 on floor, thus winning her eighth Olympic medal and her fifth gold. This time, the victory tasted like revenge after the gymnast missed the final in Tokyo 2020 due to psychological issues, sparking a worldwide debate. At that time, it was Russia that ended up receiving the gold medal.
