by time news

A curious scene marked the victory of the United States over Brazil in the men’s basketball quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics this Tuesday (6).

After receiving medical attention, NBA star LeBron James left the locker room and returned to the bench. As he made his way back at the Bercy Arena, the crowd went wild.

The official broadcast even focused on LeBron, who waved as the cheers grew even louder. However, the frenzy was not for the player, considered one of the greatest in basketball history.

It soon became clear that the crowd was chanting “Lé-on! Lé-on!”, directed at their new idol, swimmer Léon Marchand, who was present at the game.

Winner of four gold medals and with a historic participation, Marchand waved to the audience and stood up to thank his fans for their affection. He stole the show, even with so many stars on the court.

The United States won against Brazil 122 to 87. The Americans will now face Serbia in the semi-finals.
