Statement from US Presidency on Crime Reduction
A statement from the US Presidency, citing statistics from the independent organization of police chiefs of the largest US cities (MCCA), reveals that violent crimes have decreased in all categories in the first half of 2024.
According to the MCCA, homicides are down 17% compared to the first half of 2023, robbery cases are down -6%, rapes are down -9.7%, and aggravated assaults are down -5.4%.
The White House also announced that President Joe Biden’s proposed rescue plan provided $15 billion to cities and states to invest in public safety and violence prevention.
The statement further notes that the MCCA, which also covers Canada, reported slight increases in homicide and robbery crimes, and a slight decrease in sexual assault and aggravated assault in that country.
