USD 8.5 million was invested by the MSP to strengthen the cold chain for the storage and transport of vaccines – Ministry of Public Health

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP), committed to providing a quality service to the entire population, invested 8.5 million dollars for the acquisition of new equipment for the cold chain that will allow the correct conservation, storage and transport of vaccines. .

1,249 refrigerators for storage; 4,900 thermoses; 250 thermal boxes; 24,000 digital thermometers and 950 freezers for cold packs were purchased to strengthen the immunization cold chain component. The purchase was made through the Revolving Fund of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The cold chain is a logistical process that ensures the correct conservation, storage and transport of the vaccines from the producing laboratory until the moment in which the user is going to be inoculated in order to preserve all the immunogenic potency of the biological.

At the moment, the nationwide distribution of the first 641 specific refrigerators for the storage of vaccines, 6,189 digital thermometers and 250 cold boxes is being carried out. The total delivery of the equipment will be completed until the end of the first semester of 2023.

With this first delivery, more than 800 health establishments were benefited in all provinces, mostly Pastaza, Manabí, Guayas and Pichincha.

The MSP continues to strengthen and improve the vaccination process throughout the territory for the benefit of the entire population, especially children in Ecuador.
