According to the Official Gazette of the Federation, the decree that allows foreign vehicles to be regularized extends until September 30, 2026.

In the recitals, it was noted that 2,559,256 vehicles have been regularized, all based on the decree that promotes the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin published on January 19, 2022.

“It is regrettable that López Obrador invades with his decision the mandate of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum by extending the decree for two more years, just four days before the end of his presidency,” AMDA insisted.

He highlighted that no less serious is that practically all the regularized vehicles are damaged vehicles with a total loss report in the United States, thereby contributing to putting Mexicans at risk.

“There is also concern about environmental pollution and the saturation of roads in cities with the highest concentration of regularized vehicles, such as the northern states of the country.”

He stated that the impact on the formal economy does not escape this phenomenon: the state that occupies the number one place in vehicle regularization is Chihuahua, since while the market for new vehicles at the national level advanced 12.2% as of August compared to 2023 , in this entity there is a decline of 5.6% in the same reference period.

The same can be reported in Baja California, where there is only a minimal advance of 2.1 percent. Both entities with economic dynamism above average.
