Users on Twitter reminded Lapid of quotes from the past: use the police against ultra-Orthodox protesters

Against the backdrop of the violent demonstration in Tel Aviv and opposition leader Yair Lapid’s support for the protesters, social networks are reminding Lapid of things he said in the past against protesters and in favor of the police.

Instead of backing up the police officers who were attacked in the demonstration, Lapid called on them to “ignore the dangerous and irresponsible political attempt of Minister Ben Gabir to try to inflame the spirits and try to cause more violence and more anarchy.”

In a demonstration with the participation of thousands of ultra-Orthodox in January 2021, Lapid wrote on Twitter: “One law for all! What would we do? We use the police in large forces. We enforce the law without blinking. This is how it will be in a sane government. We will not be blackmailed.”

Regarding a group of ultra-Orthodox who attacked police detectives in Bnei Brak, Lapid clarified that it is not ultra-Orthodox but anarchists: “This is not ultra-orthodox. This is a group of anarchists who should end the night in detention and be tried severely as soon as possible.”

He added that “a sane country cannot allow such things to happen. This is the price we pay for the political laxity of this government. We will change it.”
