Rashmi Khatri, Dehradun: Monsoon is showing its colours before its departure from Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Centre has today issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in Bageshwar district. Whereas, a warning of heavy rains has been issued in seven districts including Dehradun. This is a heavy rain alert for these districts. According to the department, monsoon will show its strength before its departure. From 11 to 14 September, there will be heavy to very heavy rains in the hill districts of the state. Meteorologists have instructed that caution should be exercised in sensitive areas these days.
There was heavy rain for about 1 hour on Tuesday in Dehradun. Due to the continuous heavy rain for 1 hour, the temperature also came down but the roads of the city got flooded. Traffic was also affected due to waterlogging on the main crossings. Due to rain, the maximum temperature of Dehradun was 33.1 and the minimum temperature was 24.6 degree Celsius. While the maximum temperature of Tehri was 24.8 and the other temperature was 16.8 degree Celsius.
Girl swept away in the rain
Due to heavy rains in Dehradun, the rain drain in Chandrabani overflowed. During this time, two sisters Chandni and Krishna, residents of Shanti Vihar, were bringing their brother back from school when they got swept away in the rain drain. When the two girls shouted, the people around tried to save them but by then the girls had been swept away. People informed the police about this, upon which the police team went some distance and took the girls out safely.
Yellow alert for these districts
The effect of change in weather is visible. Due to sometimes sunshine and sometimes rain, the risk of dengue has also increased. This weather is considered favorable for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes. Due to this, complaints of dengue cases have also started increasing. Director of Meteorological Center Vikram Singh said that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Bageshwar today. While there is a possibility of one to two rounds of heavy rain at some places in Dehradun, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Champawat and Pithoragarh. Yellow alert has been issued for these districts.
Along with this, there is a possibility of light rain in other districts as well. It was told that the official date of departure of monsoon is 15th September. Before this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in some places in the hilly districts of the state as well as in the plains. People living in sensitive areas need to be more vigilant till 14th September. People should also avoid travelling unless necessary.
