Rescue Efforts to Resume for 41 Workers Trapped in Uttarakhand Tunnel for 12 Days

The challenging efforts to rescue 41 workers trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand for the past 12 days have faced another setback, but authorities remain determined to continue with the operation.

The workers have been stuck in the tunnel since a landslide occurred in the Silkyara area of Uttarakhand district. Despite the daunting conditions, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the workers.

Rescue operations were temporarily halted on Friday, but the NDMA has assured that drilling operations will resume soon in order to pump the pipeline to the area where the workers are located. The workers are currently being provided with oxygen to keep them from passing out, and provisions such as food and mobile phone chargers have been sent through a 6-inch-wide pipe.

Efforts to rescue the workers have faced numerous obstacles, including steel bars and a cracked concrete floor, but the NDMA remains committed to the mission. An official from the NDMA stressed that all available resources have been deployed for the rescue operations and urged the media to avoid speculating about the status of the efforts.

A rehearsal for the rescue operation took place on Friday, with soldiers practicing the process of pulling out the trapped workers one by one using a low-height wheeled tractor. The NDMA is coordinating a National Rescue Mission to ensure the safe extraction of the workers.

Despite the challenges, the authorities remain determined and focused on the goal of rescuing the workers. Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing rescue operation.
