As happens every year, the University of the Valley of Guatemala —UVG— will carry out its Open House 2024 very soon. This is the ideal opportunity for you to learn about everything that this higher education institution has prepared for your academic development. So, get ready! The UVG Open House will take place on Saturday, August 24th between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm at the Central Campus of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, located at 18 Avenida 11-95, Zone 15, Vista Hermosa III.

It is an event that will feature activities from art and sports clubs, information spaces, workshops on careers of interest, talks about scholarship and credit opportunities, tours of the Innovation and Technology Center —CIT—as well as an area for parents and space for siblings. These will be spaces that will allow you to experience university life at UVG on your own.

What is the educational model at UVG?

The University of the Valley of Guatemala focuses on teaching its students to “learn by doing.” In this way, young Guatemalans are able to apply their knowledge in collaborative innovation projects and Practical jobs. In addition, UVG ​​has specialized laboratories for careers in its five areas: engineering, science, education, creativity and businessThrough these laboratories, students can use cutting-edge technological equipment and make innovative discoveries, thus creating projects that benefit their university career. A process accompanied by the guidance of experienced teachers who contribute with challenges to prepare them for the professional world.

On the other hand, specialized laboratories encourage collaborations between students from different careers, uniting multidisciplinary fields to design solutions to current problems in Guatemala and the region. Specialized laboratories for higher learning

The Innovation and Technology Center —CIT— brings together different laboratories focused on the areas of Engineering to provide students with the necessary tools to enhance their skills:

  • Food and Nutrition Innovation Plant: With an area of ​​800m², it is the largest and most complete food plant in Guatemala, and the second largest in Central America.
  • Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory: you will find high-precision industrial equipment capable of manufacturing parts from different materials. This was the laboratory that manufactured the aluminum structure of the Quetzal-1 Satellite.
  • Aerospace Engineering Laboratory —LIA—: focused on space research and exploration. This laboratory contributed to the completion of the assembly of Quetzal-1, in addition to having worked on projects in collaboration with international entities such as NASA.
  • Robotics Laboratory: the first of its kind in Guatemala, which uses the Robotat platform, inspired by the Robotarium of the Georgia Institute of Technology, United States.
  • Virtual Reality —VR— and Augmented Reality —AR— Laboratory: specializes in the simulation of everyday situations under controlled conditions to promote critical analysis and the development of solutions that can then be applied in real life.

Additionally, these are some of the laboratories oriented to the area of ​​Social Sciences:

  • Visual Anthropology Laboratory: a place where students participate in the research process of archaeological pieces. This laboratory has performed 3D scanning of pre-Hispanic pieces.
  • Comprehensive Center for Applied Psychology —CIPA—: This is where psychology students can do internships under the supervision of professionals. It is through this project that UVG provides support to the country in areas of mental health.

This is one of the laboratories for the Creativity courses:

  • Audiovisual Recording Studio —EGA—: You will be able to get involved in recording, mixing and mastering audio and video, using microphones, cameras, lighting equipment, high-quality recorders and a Waves eMotion LV1 digital console.

Business majors can make use of laboratories such as:

  • Advanced Finance Laboratory: where students have direct contact with the world of finance, with access to content from the Bloomberg Terminal and different financial markets in real time.

Finally, this is one of the laboratories that students of Basic Sciences courses have access to:

  • Systematic Entomology Laboratory: Biology students can learn about and study the biodiversity of insects in the country, collecting field samples, mounting specimens and identifying and describing species.
