Uzbekistan is interested in adopting the New Economic Dialogue Program of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
As reported on Thursday by Day.Az with reference to Trend, this was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking today at the regular meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Astana.
“I propose that we instruct our governments and departments to work on the issue of adopting the SCO New Economic Dialogue Program, covering such areas as innovative development, digitalization and robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and other industries of the future,” he said.
The President mentioned that the SCO region is a space of enormous economic opportunities, a platform and resource base for the long-term sustainable development of all countries of the organization.
“The SCO accounts for about one third of the world’s gross product at purchasing power parity, about 27 percent of foreign direct investment and up to 20 percent of global trade. The organization’s states are leaders in industrial and innovative development indicators, have enormous intellectual potential, and rich energy and agricultural resources,” Mirziyoyev emphasized.
He also added that in this regard, the initiative to create a common space for increasing intra-regional trade and industrial and technological cooperation is more relevant today than ever.
It should be noted that on July 4, 2024, the SCO Summit will be held in the Palace of Independence in Astana under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan.
The event is attended by the heads of state and government of Kazakhstan, India, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey and Turkmenistan, as well as the SCO Secretary General and the Executive Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
The UN Secretary-General and heads of international organizations such as the CIS, ECO, CICA, CSTO, EEC and IOFS are also participating in the summit.
For the first time, the SCO summit is being held in the format of a “Meeting of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States” and an “SCO Plus” meeting.
