“I do not understand at all how more than three months were not enough to resolve the issue of the second tier of pensions. (…) The government has not presented any decision and keeps saying that the issue is being examined and resolved somewhere,” V. Blinkevičiūtė told “Žinių radio” on Friday.

In March, after the Constitutional Court (KT) decided that the law does not provide for the possibility to withdraw from pension accumulation for important reasons, it violates the Constitution, Monika Navickienė, who worked as the Minister of Social Security and Labor at the time, promised to submit specific decisions to the Seimas in the spring session.

Therefore, V. Blinkevičiūtė criticizes those in power who, according to her, were unable to take the initiatives needed by the residents in time.

“It is bad here that during the entire period of the session it is not possible to present at least a draft and resolve this issue,” the MEP noted.

However, the leader of the Social Democrats was happy with the goals achieved in the session of the Seimas that ended on Thursday – she calls the adopted defense tax package “the best decision” and notes the parliament’s consistent support for Ukraine.

“Although it (increasing defense funding – ELTA) could have been done, as we Social Democrats said, back in December of last year with the approval of the next year’s budget, but better late than never.” This is always welcome. And I always see unity and consensus when we resolve issues regarding support for Ukraine, in fact, good decisions are made here as well,” the MEP noted.

In addition, although V. Blinkevičiūtė was skeptical about the productivity of the autumn session, she added that she hoped that the Seimas would be able to solve “routine issues” – for example, to adopt next year’s budget.

ELTA has already announced that the Constitutional Court (CT) decided that the limited possibility to withdraw from pension accumulation funds provided for in the Pension Accumulation Law violates the Constitution. However, according to the institution, different types of benefits based on the amount of accumulated assets do not violate the basic law.

KT notes that the right to funds accumulated in pension funds is related to the protection of his property rights, therefore the current regulation has no basis.

The Constitutional Court stated that the reasonableness and appropriateness of determining the amount of assets accumulated in the pension fund and the amount of pension payments depending on them is not a matter of constitutional control, because there is no reason to claim that the values enshrined in the Constitution, protected and protected by such legal regulation are obviously negated.
