The member of the European Parliament confirmed to the portal “Delfi” that if the voters give the most votes to the social democrats in the autumn, she could become the prime minister.

However, due to the fact that V. Blinkevičiūta was not given a specific answer, criticism from other politicians and political experts has been flying for some time.

It has been discussed for months whether the leader of the LSDP could really leave her seat as a member of the European Parliament in Brussels and return to work in Lithuania, and what the concept of “forming the Government” named by the Social Democrats really means.

V. Blinkevičiūtė explained her position on Wednesday at a press conference.

“I really want to assure you that in the event of our success, after receiving the majority and receiving the mandate to form the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, I will take full responsibility, and, of course, working with the President of the Republic of Lithuania, in the event of success, I will take responsibility for leading the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

I want to say that I have never hid and I am not hiding behind anyone’s skirt, like the leaders of some parties, and I say this very responsibly,” emphasized V. Blinkevičiūtė.

The leader of the Social Democrats reminded that she had already assumed the responsibility of leading the party to the Seimas elections, and that she had repeatedly emphasized that in case of success, she would lead the Government. So she did not agree that she hid this decision.

“That’s what it really means, you look at it – we are consistently moving forward. From that moment, from our conference in Šventoja, I said that I would take the list to the Seimas, take responsibility, form the Government together with the president, and now I say – in case of success, after receiving a majority, I will lead the Government, if there is people’s trust”, taught V.Blinkevičiūtė .

True, she said that she has not yet discussed such a scenario with President G. Nausėda, whom LSDP supported in the election of the head of the country. However, he emphasized that cooperation with the president would certainly be constructive.

“First of all, I think we need to win the elections, and then we will settle down,” assured V. Blinkevičiūtė.

The chairwoman of LSDP continued to agree that the party is big, so it has many experienced politicians. According to her, there would certainly be something to choose from when forming the Government.

When asked why she only now gave a clear answer about her title as a possible prime minister, V. Blinkevičiūtė said that this question had already been answered for her.

“You know, I want to say one thing – it was clear to me even then, but it turns out that it is not clear to many,” the chairperson of the Social Democrats thought.

She emphasized that she is never inclined to take the crown before the election results are clear.

“The Social Democratic Party has never been a party of one person, and I am very happy that it never will be.

The Social Democrats have never been, are not and will not be a party of one political season, and therefore, when we say that there are many experienced people who can work in the Government, it is so,” explained V. Blinkevičiūtė.

Journalists also reminded the member of the European Parliament of the considerations of some conservatives and other politicians, that her words about the formation of the Government are just a smoke screen, and she will definitely not be the prime minister.

“I would not at all want to comment on the various statements of either L. Kasčiūnas or, perhaps, G. Landsbergis – it seems to me that they have problems in their party, and let them solve them.

Like G. Landsbergis, in a difficult situation in the state, as the chairman of the leading party, I certainly never take a vacation, as he took a vacation and takes a vacation in each specific case, when there is one or another crisis in the state. That’s what makes us different,” the leader of the Social Democrats compared.

With whom could LSDP be in the ruling coalition? V. Blinkevičiūtė continued to repeat that there will definitely be no conservatives among the possible partners.

“I don’t see any coalition with conservatives,” assured the politician.

“The people of Lithuania will say that,” said V. Blinkevičiūtė when asked who she would see then.

The leader of the Social Democrats said that she also knows who could be the most important ministers of her government, but she has not named any of them yet. He promised to do that after the election.

“Let’s win the elections and lay down the crowns,” urged V. Blinkevičiūtė.
