V. Landsbergis – about G. Nausėda’s statements regarding the rejected candidacy: the arguments are unstable

by times news cr

“There used to be completely different arguments, apparently they are very unstable or mobile, something needs to be said. You don’t need to pay much attention to such sayings. He said that “I won’t miss it” and that’s all, and then you can pick your arguments like a mushroom in a forest,” said V. Landsbergis to Elta.

This week, G. Nausėda said to “Žinių radijui” that the decision not to appoint conservative leader G. Landsberi as Lithuania’s representative to the EC was not determined by revenge or personal reasons. The head of the country assured that he did not like some of the mannerisms of the minister who was projected to be a European commissioner, as well as the decision to concentrate only on foreign policy.

However, the honorary chairman of the conservatives positively evaluates the candidacy of MEP Andrias Kubilius agreed between the president and the prime minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

“I think he will be a good European commissioner. He is a very competent person who has seen a lot and communicated with a lot. It has beneficial properties for both Europe and Lithuania. It’s not a bad decision if Gabrielius is not missed to death”, taught V. Landsbergis.

ELTA reminds that on Monday Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė presented to the coalition council the candidacy of MEP A. Kubilius for the European Commission (EC). According to her, this is the candidate for whom it was possible to find common ground with the president.

Minister of Foreign Affairs G. Landsbergis, who was previously discussed in the media and political corridors as a possible European Commissioner, told Elta last Friday that he had received information that President G. Nausėda would not approve his candidacy.

For his part, G. Nausėda himself testified that the decision not to appoint conservative leader G. Landsberis as Lithuania’s representative in the European Commission was not determined by revenge or personal reasons. The head of the country admitted that he did not like some of the mannerisms of the minister, who was projected to become a European commissioner, and the decision to concentrate only on foreign policy.

The nomination of the Eurocommissioner is submitted by the Government after the position has been agreed with the President and the Seimas.
