Four people were found dead outside the seaside resort in Bathmol (Monday), as deadly violence continues to plague the country. Two suspects connected to the murders have been arrested, Quintana Roo state prosecutors said. The reasons for the murder have not yet been revealed.

Officials originally said three bodies were found in a lot near the beachfront hotel, but eventually a fourth body was found in bushes in the same lot.

The shocking incident occurred a week after an American tourist was shot and wounded in the leg when he was approached by several suspects in Puerto Morelos. It is not clear why the tourist was shot.

The US State Department warned travelers to “exercise increased caution” especially after dark in Mexico’s bustling resorts, such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, which have faced drug cartel violence.

Two Canadians were killed in Playa del Carmen in 2022 because of alleged debts between international drug and arms traffickers. In 2021, two tourists were caught in the crossfire of a shootout by rival drug dealers in Tulum. One of the victims was a travel blogger from California who was born in India.
