Coronavirus

After a pilot project at eight elementary school locations, the voluntary CoV vaccination offer at elementary schools will be rolled out nationwide on Monday: This means that children at a further 176 municipal elementary schools can be vaccinated directly in their school.

As of the weekend, there were 3,027 pre-registrations, according to the office of City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) on Sunday. Last December, a pilot project for vaccination in schools was started at eight elementary school locations in Vienna, at that time 556 vaccinations were carried out on site.

Until the end of March

The campaign – including the second stitch – should run until the end of March. The existing infrastructure at the school locations is used for vaccinations by school doctors, and mobile teams deliver the vaccine on the day of the vaccination campaign. In individual cases where this is not possible or where there were too few registrations, a trip to the public vaccination centers is offered.

The vaccinations are also entered in the ELGA electronic health record as part of the campaign, after the second dose the children receive their vaccination certificate. As with other school vaccinations, the parents were informed in advance by letter to parents about the vaccinations available, including dates. The prerequisite for the vaccination is a declaration of consent from the legal guardians.

Registration with the school doctor is not possible

The experience from the pilot schools shows that between ten and 30 percent of the children who take part in the campaign are vaccinated, according to City Councilor Hacker’s office. Registrations with the respective school doctor are still possible.
