A vaccination opponent has kidnapped two girls to Paraguay. His former wife is now making the case public – and making a desperate appeal to the man.

ADesperation speaks in the words of Anne Maja Reiniger-Egler. For months there has been no trace of her ten-year-old daughter Clara. “Help us in our search,” the mother asked at a press conference in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion on Monday. The German called on the Paraguayans to help local authorities find her daughter and another 11-year-old girl.

Reiniger-Egler’s daughter traveled to Paraguay in November with her father Andreas Rainer Egler and his new wife Anna Maria Egler. The eleven-year-old daughter of the new partner was with them. According to the authorities, however, the emigration had taken place without the consent of the other parents. The children were last seen on January 19, after which they were lost. The children have been searched for months. On Monday, the head of the kidnapping unit of the Paraguayan police announced that the search for the two girls would be intensified. Legal and criminal proceedings were initiated in both countries to return the girls to Germany. With tears, Reiniger-Egler begged the father to put an end to the nightmare and get in touch with her. “Andreas, please end this situation that is depriving me and so many of us of sleep,” she said. The girls certainly didn’t feel comfortable in this situation. “They can’t be spending the rest of their childhood fleeing or running away.”
