Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, based in the UK and Sweden, has decided to withdraw the marketing authorization of its coronavirus vaccine Vaxzevria. It has serious side effects associated with blood clots and death.
This was reported by The Telegraph.
The company submitted a notice to stop selling the drug in the EU on March 5, and it came into force on May 7. The vaccine will also be withdrawn from circulation in the UK and other countries in the coming months. The reason given by the company relates to reduced demand for the drug due to commercial reasons.
According to a statement from the pharmaceutical company, with the development of new variants of COVID-19 vaccines, an excess of updated drugs appeared, which led to a decrease in interest in Vaxzevria, the cessation of its production and sales.
Since early last year, a British court has been considering a class action lawsuit brought against AstraZeneca by relatives of those killed or seriously injured after receiving coronavirus vaccinations. At least 81 Britons have died from blood clots caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine, regulators said.
The patient first reported possible side effects in 2021 after he suffered a blood clot and bleeding in the brain as a result of the AstraZeneca vaccine, causing permanent damage to the organ. The use of this vaccine has been temporarily suspended in some European countries.
In court filings, the company acknowledged that use of the vaccine may cause thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (TTC) in extremely rare cases. This condition is characterized by the formation of blood clots when levels of platelets, normally responsible for blood clotting, are low.
Previously, Cursor reported that long-term coronavirus can “age” the brain by 20 years.
