In Citt di Castello from 10 to 23 October a large exhibition in nine rooms with the female alter ego of the great author who acts as a guide to the viewer through life-size silhouettes, texts and videos dedicated to him
For once, it will be her, the character of Valentina, who will present Guido Crepax in an exhibition that seems to present itself as a unique in the history of exhibitions dedicated to the artist over the years. The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Saturday 10 September in Citt di Castello, where it will remain open until 23 October, saw the Friends of Comics association and the author’s children, Antonio, Caterina and Giacomo, managers of the Crepax Archivetell the whole artistic career of Valentina’s father: A journey that goes beyond his most famous character – explains the president Gianfranco Bellini – and which, for the first time all together, reveals the various works and passions of the protagonist of a special edition of the Comic Strip Show, the twentieth.
The exhibition was titled Valentina presents: TuttoCrepax and will be organized along nine rooms of Palazzo Facchinetti, in the center of Citt di Castello, each of which will be dedicated to one of the great themes that characterize Crepax’s work. A sequence of topics structured in chronological orderto allow the viewer to relive, step by step, all the main stages of the author’s career.
Valentina, his female alter ego, acts as a guide to the viewer through life-size silhouettes, texts that will tell the life and history of the artist and his characters and a selection of videos dedicated to him. Over a hundred original works chosen from among the most beautiful and representative in Crepax’s production: the exhibition, moreover, enriched by giant posters and original scenographies that make it spectacular. Each room will develop a theme: the relationship between the author and his key character (Valentina is me); the musical origins of the family and the first works in the recording field (A musical family); Crepax’s youthful passion for staging and inventing board games, (Life is a game); work as a graphic designer, designer and author of television themes (Advertising interlude); Crepax’s love for cinema (Sequence plan) and science fiction (Are other worlds possible?); the numerous citations of works of art to the fashion world (Art & Fashion); literary quotes and meticulous comic book versions of famous novels (The comic novel); and finally, a room dedicated to eroticism, with its comic versions of famous erotic novels (The pleasure of the forbidden).
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary and Crepax’s passion for music, the first of the many appointments of this edition of the Comic Strip Exhibition will be the concert (free)
Crepax designs the Blues scheduled for Friday 9 September at 9 pm in the garden of Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera. On the stage, set up in the sixteenth-century garden of the Palazzo home to the Pinacoteca, the Tiferno Blues Project group will climb.
