The victory sent the Oslo club to the top of the table after Moss had held the top position since Saturday.
Sebastian Jarl was brought to Vålerenga from Kristiansund. On Monday, he marked his transfer by sending the home team into the lead after 25 minutes of play.
At that point, the match had already been halted briefly after home supporters had bombarded the pitch with pastries. Once the pastries were cleared off the grass, play could resume.
“Today’s actions are a warning to the executives in NFF and NTF that Vålerenga supporters also stand with all those in Norwegian football who want VAR removed,” wrote the VIF clan on social media.
After the break, the home team continued to dominate on the pitch. Magnus Riisnæs struck brilliantly from outside the 16-meter box to double the lead six minutes into the second half.
Carl Lange, who recently signed for Vålerenga, provided the assist for the second goal.
The third goal came from 18-year-old Jones El-Abdellaoui’s head. Henrik Bjørdal delivered the cross, and the finish was top-class.
Towards the end, Gustav Mogensen scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Vålerenga could have scored many more goals against a Ranheim team that did not manage to put the hosts under much pressure.
The victory means that Vålerenga tops the 1st division table, one point ahead of Moss. Third-placed Egersund is four points behind after 16 matches played.
