VÅLERENGA-LYN 4–2

VALLE (Nettavisen): Vålerenga emerged victorious from a highly eventful and dramatic Oslo derby at Valle on Saturday evening. After a shocking start by Lyn just three minutes in, Vålerenga ultimately fought back and won the neighborhood clash.

– Are we there again, Geir Bakke begins to Nettavisen regarding what he thought when Lyn took the lead early in the match.

Vålerenga turned it around and won, but Bakke did not like everything he saw, especially before halftime.

– We like to have control over central spaces and do it in a safe way, while also being proactive and making the game on our terms. We turned it into an open game and ended up pressing too high. Fortunately, Ambina had a great day at work, he says.

Lyn took the lead after an incredible own goal by Christian Borchgrevink after just three minutes. The defender sent the ball past his own goalkeeper and into the gaping net as keeper Magnus Sjøeng was coming out to catch a long through ball.

– It’s an own goal in a fog of confusion! There’s always something happening in these matches. Here, it’s Lyn who gets a gift package, says commentator Morten Langli.

Turned around in two minutes

Vålerenga seemed shaken in the minutes after the early goal against them and Lyn created several dangerous opportunities.

After eleven minutes, VIF took another blow when Henrik Bjørdal had to leave the field due to injury. He was replaced by Magnus Riisnæs.

The home team gradually played themselves back into the match, and after 22 minutes, Brice Ambina equalized with a perfectly placed shot in the far corner.

– That is class, the reception and the finish. That’s what has really been missing in his game: Goals. But now it’s coming, and it’s coming in the local derby, says Morten Langli.

– A wonderfully beautiful finish. You can’t do it better than that.

Shortly after, the match turned when Carl Lange intercepted a Lyn play and advanced up the field before hammering the ball into the corner.

– It can turn so quickly in football. It’s aggressive, good defensive play from both striker Brajanac and Lange first. And the finish, he’s pure high from the first goal. The crowd is already on their feet.

– What kind of Oslo derby are we witnessing?

Lyn was close to equalizing shortly after with a shot that hit the post.

On the following attack, Mathias Johansen equalized.

– What kind of Oslo derby are we witnessing?, asks Stamsø Møller, almost shocked after four goals within half an hour.

– They are first on five balls in a row, Lyn!, Langli exclaims.

New VIF lead

After an intense first half, the second half started more cautiously without any major chances. But just under half an hour before the end it changed when Muamer Brajanac appeared inside Lyn’s box. The Danish striker poked the ball into the goal for a new lead for Vålerenga.

– It’s great for him. But it’s really tough for Lyn, who is one man down due to a cut caused by a Vålerenga player, says Stamsø Møller.

Just before, Julius Skaug had gone down after an unpleasant encounter with Ambina’s arm. The Lyn player received a nasty cut and was out on the sideline for treatment when Vålerenga scored their third.

– It’s very unfortunate for Lyn. I lean towards yellow and not red on that one, commented Stamsø Møller after he saw the replays.

Skaug was substituted shortly after.

Nine minutes before the end, Jones El-Abdellaoui slammed in Vålerenga’s fourth with an exquisite shot into the corner with his left foot.

– There, I think Vålerenga just sets the record straight so emphatically. In that attack, they show pure quality, says Stamsø Møller.

Lyn pressed for a goal towards the end, but Vålerenga held firm and took three points, which further extends their lead in the Obos league.
