Van Gogh’s Most Famous Work Inspired an Exhibition in the Heart of Nature

The painting by the Dutch artist served as inspiration for a themed park in Bosnia.

It is inspired by the artist’s work.

“The Starry Night,” by Vincent Van Gogh, is one of the most famous paintings in the world. With predominantly cool tones, the painting was created in 1889, inspired by the view from the artist’s window at the Saint-Paul de Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy, France, where he spent 12 months. Now, this post-impressionist work is inspiring a garden in Bosnia.

Halim Zukic decided to create a themed park in homage to Van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night.” The Bosnian businessman purchased a large piece of land two decades ago and six years ago decided to transform the hectares into a natural setting.

The businessman had this unusual idea while observing some tractors working on his land. He got to work, commissioned the creation of 13 lakes on the 10 hectares of the estate, and planted 130,000 lavender plants in six different shades, along with sage, echinacea, absinthe, and chamomile, which together form colorful circles and spirals characteristic of the painting.

“The tractor passed over the meadows, leaving tire marks that reminded me of a spiral. At that moment, I had no doubts about the direction I would take. It was the spiral from Van Gogh’s painting. Coincidence or not, it was the moment that defined the rest of my life. Since then, I have been here continuously for six years,” the owner explained to Reuters, as quoted by SIC Notícias.

Zukic wants to start welcoming visitors to the space and transform it into a small retreat in the midst of nature.
