The Democratic vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and the Republican vice presidential candidate, JD Vance, have agreed to hold a TV debate on October 1 (local time). The TV debate between the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has been decided to be held once more in October, following the one on the 10th of next month.

On the 15th, CBS reported that “both presidential campaigns agreed to hold a vice presidential debate on October 1st.” CBS also reported that “they suggested September 17th, 24th, October 1st, and 8th, and the Democratic Party agreed to October 1st,” and that “Vance also announced on social media that he would participate in the debate.”

After the deal, Walz posted to X, “JD, see you October 1st.” Vance responded, “The American people deserve to see as many debates as possible,” offering, “I will accept the CBS debate on October 1st as well as the CNN debate on September 18th and look forward to seeing you at both.”

However, Harris’s campaign committee said, “Walz will only participate in the CBS debate on October 1.” The vice presidential debate will be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell and chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.

The TV debate between the vice presidential candidates is expected to be one of the main issues regarding the ‘dirt spoon’. Both candidates Walz and Vance have in common that they are white men born into working-class families. However, while candidate Walz has never owned stocks and has continued to walk the path of a dirt spoon, candidate Vance is evaluated as having come from a ‘golden spoon’ background after working at a law firm and in Silicon Valley.

Meanwhile, Harris’s presidential campaign announced that they would hold only one more presidential debate in October, following the one on September 10. They dismissed Trump’s claim that the debate schedule should be renegotiated due to the change in Democratic presidential candidates. Spokesperson Michael Tyler said, “Assuming Trump actually shows up on September 10, Walz and Van Gaal will debate on October 1, and Harris and Trump will have a second debate in October.”
