The essential food basket recorded a 6.26% drop in price, after the Zero VAT measure came into force on April 18, according to data from the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE).
There are 44 food products that benefit from this measure. To arrive at this value, ASAE used a sample of one good for each category, with a choice criterion, own brand goods and an online collection at a physical store, and recorded that the basket had a price decrease of 6 .26%.
The verification was carried out following the Follow-up Committee included in the Pact for the Stabilization and Reduction of Food Prices, which held a meeting today. In addition to ASAE, the Monitoring Committee also includes the Competition Authority, Tax and Customs Authority, Directorate General for Economic Activities, Directorate General for Consumers, Office for Planning, Policies and General Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) and Confederation of Farmers of Portugal (CAP).
