Varillas won and advanced to the quarterfinals at the Campinas Challenger

Peruvian tennis player Juan Pablo Varillas qualified for the quarterfinals of the Campinas Challenger in Brazil after defeating local Pedro Sakamoto in three sets.

In a contested match, Varillas needed three hours and 10 minutes to beat Sakamoto 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4. The game had a lot of ups and downs but Peru was able to win the first set thanks to a breakaway in the end.

In the second set, Brazil led 5-2 and although Varillas was able to recover, he lost serve again in the tenth game and lost 6-4.

In the third set there was more consistency as both were able to hold serve until Varillas broke in the ninth game and then closed out the match with his serve at 6-4.

The Peruvian tennis player will face the winner of the duel between the Ecuadorian Álvaro Guillén Meza and the Bolivian Hugo Dellien in the quarterfinals.
