The Abbey of Santa Escolastica de la Victoria was founded in 1941. Almost three years earlier, the construction of the temple had begun on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, on December 8, 1938, at the urging of the prior of the Abbey of San Benito in Buenos Aires. The future Argentine nuns were trained at the Abbey of Santa María in São Paulo (Brazil). In September 1941, “four Brazilian women with solemn vows, six Argentine women with temporary vows and a converted sister” left for Argentina, forming the founding community, as detailed in its website.

Already in 1946, the monastery acquired the status of Abbey, with Mother Plácida de Oliveira being named the first abbess, who died in 1948 and was succeeded by Mother Mectildis Cecilia Santangelo. In 1977, Mother María Leticia Riquelme was appointed Abbess, with special permission as she was not yet 35 years old, and she launched three other foundations in Argentina.
