Speaking at a reception organized on Wednesday evening in his honor by the Moroccan embassy in the Vatican, following his appointment as honorary member of the Academy of the Kingdom, the cardinal highlighted “the cordial and sincere relations” that unite the Kingdom of Morocco and the Vatican.
Cardinal Parolin welcomed this Royal appointment, expressing his “great satisfaction and gratitude at having been chosen as an honorary member of this prestigious institution.”
”The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, as a scientific institution of reference, has the mission of the intellectual, scientific and cultural progress of the Kingdom, while making known the components of the national identity and disseminating universal values and principles, aiming at promoting a fruitful dialogue between cultures and civilizations”, he added.
Through the organization of meetings at the global level, the academy builds civilizational bridges and strengthens mutual cultural understanding, the official at the Holy See stressed.
“Joining such an institution is of prime importance, because through its work it helps to discover and welcome others in the particularity of their faith and to mutually enrich each other through difference, in a relationship marked by benevolence,” he said.
For his part, the Moroccan ambassador to the Holy See, Rajae Naji Mekkaoui, stressed that “this Royal appointment reaffirms the will and commitment of the Sovereign to consolidate the secular relations between Morocco and the Vatican and to work towards the promotion of the universal values of peace and tolerance, the protection of the family, migration, climate change, sustainable development, the fight against poverty and the strengthening of multilateralism.”
”The opening of the prestigious Academy of the Kingdom to eminent personalities and intellectual and scientific skills from around the world is also part of the historical role played by Morocco, as a crossroads of dialogue between the West and the East and a permanent bridge of communication between different civilizations”, noted the diplomat.
”Convinced of the importance of consolidating peace and coexistence between peoples, nations and cultures, the Kingdom has, moreover, never ceased to call for favoring peaceful ways for the resolution of conflicts, at their head that of the Middle East”, added Mrs. Naji Mekkaoui.
The Academy is the continuation of centuries-old traditions in the Kingdom, initiated by the first Moroccan university Al Quarawiyine, which attracted students and professors from all over the world and from all religions, she said.
This reception, which saw the participation of a range of diplomatic figures, was marked by the screening of an institutional film on the Academy of the Kingdom, which highlights the first session of this prestigious institution under its new configuration.
