The service has repeatedly warned the public about the high risks of recruitment and intelligence when visiting aggressor Russia and its closest ally Belarus. Such risks should be taken into account when visiting the territories currently occupied by Russia.
The Security Service reminded that the activities of the intelligence services of Russia and Belarus have become more aggressive. The special services of these countries try to use any means to obtain intelligence information about NATO and European Union members, including Latvia.
VDD drew attention to the fact that the possibilities of Latvian state institutions to help Latvian nationals in difficulties in Russia and the territories under its control are limited.
Also, the service reminded that Russia has been developing measures to influence young Russians living abroad for a long time with the help of disinformation and propaganda, in order to justify Russia’s aggressive foreign policy and to create future promoters of Russian interests in other countries.
The Kremlin’s propaganda media reports that children from 60 countries have come to the “Artek” children’s camp – allegedly from both Asian countries and Europe, including Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
