The Vedanta Group is making significant strides towards supporting the Indian government’s goal of fostering a self-reliant India by entering into talks with Taiwan-based LCD panel maker Innolux Corporation to establish a display plant in the country. Innolux Corporation is known for manufacturing LCD panels for TVs, computers, and laptops.
A senior official from a Vedanta company revealed that the discussions with Innolux Corporation are part of the company’s efforts to set up a display fabrication plant locally. The move aligns with the Indian government’s vision of boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports.
To further this initiative, officials from Vedanta and Innolux Corporation recently met with the Union Minister of State for Information Technology, Rajiv Chandrasekhar. The minister took to his social media page to share insights from the meeting and expressed that discussions focused on India’s aspirations for domestic display production and self-sufficiency in electronic product manufacturing.
This isn’t the first time Vedanta has ventured into collaboration with international partners to establish manufacturing facilities in India. Previously, the company had planned to set up a semiconductor plant in partnership with Taiwan’s Boxcon. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the agreement fell through. Presently, Vedanta and Boxcon are exploring partnerships with other companies, including those from Japan, to embark on the establishment of a semiconductor plant in India.
The talks between Vedanta and Innolux Corporation signal a significant step towards bolstering India’s manufacturing capabilities and creating a conducive environment for domestic production in the electronics industry. As these discussions progress, it is anticipated that the collaborative efforts will contribute to India’s journey towards self-reliance and bolstering its position in the global electronics manufacturing landscape.
