by time news

The educational holding Skillbox Holding Limited, which includes online learning services Skillbox and Geekbrains, has left a number of employees, a company representative told Vedomosti. Sources of the publication call layoffs massive, one of them estimates the number of employees who left Skillbox and Geekbrains in the region of 300 people.

The cuts have affected methodologists and producers, a former Skillbox employee told the newspaper, and one of the former co-owners also reported cuts in the support service. The representative of the holding confirmed that the holding’s management “combines duplicating functions and carries out the necessary organizational changes”, and some of the employees left it “due to the merger of duplicating functions.”

The former co-owner of Skillbox Andrey Anishchenko told the newspaper that the period of extensive growth of the holding companies is ending. According to him, now the market of additional professional education “is moving into a mature stage, when its participants need to show systematic management and consistent improvement in profits.”

Skillbox Holding Limited was established by Mail.ru Group (currently VK Group; owns 50.06% of the holding) in August 2021. In November, the holding bought 90% of the Brazilian online school Mentorama. It should be noted that in December VK Group changed its owner: Alisher Usmanov’s USM withdrew from the company, and control over the group passed to structures close to Gazprom. Vladimir Kiriyenko, the son of Sergey Kiriyenko, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, became the new CEO of the company.
