A vehicle exploded on the border between USA e Canada this Wednesday, 22, at a checkpoint on the Rainbow Bridge.
The route passes over a river in the Niagara Falls region, connecting the states of New York, in the United States, and Ontario, in Canada.

The accident occurred on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. The driver and passenger in the car died. A border police officer and a pedestrian were injured.
The vehicle crossed the bridge towards the North American side. According to the local press, the car had just passed through border control and was selected for a second check, when it accelerated, collided with a barrier and exploded.
After the episode, four borders between the two countries were closed for security reasons, in western New York State.

Vehicle explosion
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that it is investigating the case and that the situation is “uncertain”. The department said there are no indications of a terrorist threat in connection with the case and that they are investigating a person they believe to be the driver of the vehicle.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said there is no indication the explosion was a terrorist attack.
“It was not determined to be an accident. You don’t know if the driver’s action was intentional. But at this time, there is no known ‘terrorist connection,’” he said.
Anti-terrorism force teams monitor all access points into New York State. Ontario police are also involved in the investigation.

The airport in the city of Buffalo, in the United States, close to the border, canceled all departing and arriving flights around two hours after the explosion, which occurred around 2 pm (Brasília time).
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the episode was “very serious” and declared that the case was being taken “extremely seriously”.
“Additional measures are being considered and activated at all border crossings in the country”, he declared.
A White House stated that it is “closely monitoring the situation”.
