The Legislative Assembly extended a transitional provision to the Law on Tax Rights for the Circulation of Vehicles in order to extend the validity period of motor vehicle license plates that expires on April 30.
With the initiative, the period of validity of the plates in circulation, and with 2011 format, is extended until August 31, 2025.
On April 16, 1993, the law that protects the circulation of vehicles was issued and in articles 13 and 14 of said regulations, it is established that no vehicle may circulate without the respective plates prior to payment of its price, which are valid of five years.
In 2022, the current Assembly approved the decree with transitional provisions to extend the validity of the license plates until April 30, 2024.
Deputy Salvador Chacón highlighted that this is one more measure by the Government of President Nayib Bukele to improve the economy of Salvadorans.
“The validity of the license plates must be renewed every five years, but given the situation of rising oil prices, we find it necessary to temporarily extend the period of validity of the use of the current license plates of vehicles in circulation. As representatives of the Salvadoran people we will seek to protect their interests and ensure their economy,” said the legislator.
