Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield is going through a delicate situation after a 24-year-old girl reported sexual abuse against four players on the professional team.
Faced with this serious scenario, the club issued a forceful statement confirming that it will activate its action protocol for gender violence and will adopt measures regarding the accused. In the official statement, the club expressed: “Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield has become aware of the complaint of sexual abuse made in the PROSECUTOR UNIT FOR CRIMES AGAINST SEXUAL INTEGRITY I of the Province of Tucumán on March 6 of this year, in which four players from our professional team are involved.” In view of the seriousness of the complaint, the Vélez Sarsfield Board of Directors made itself available to the Tucumán Justice Department to collaborate in the investigation and clarification of the case.
In addition, it was confirmed that, within the framework of the Institution’s protocol for action in cases of gender-based violence, it has been decided to preventively separate the players mentioned in the complaint from the professional squad: Sebastián Sosa, Braian Cufré, Abiel Osorio and José Ignacio Florentín. The Tucumán Justice Department is already investigating the case, which supposedly occurred on Sunday in the aforementioned province, coinciding with Vélez’s visit to Atlético Tucumán for the League Cup. According to the story of the young woman, who is a journalism student, she made contact with the player Sebastián Sosa through Instagram, who invited her to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel. The victim went to the meeting after midnight and, upon arrival, she found not only Sosa, but also the players Cufré, Osorio and Florentín in room 407.
