Veneto, Terna starts demolition of the foundations of the Dolo-Camin power line pylons

by time news

Terna started the demolition work on the foundations of the pylons of the 380 kV Dolo-Camin overhead line this morning no longer needed. The event was attended by Roberto Marcato, councilor for economic development and energy of the Veneto Region, Andrea Danieletto, mayor of Vigonovo and Adel Motawi, head of Terna’s administrative processes.

The works will lead to the demolition of 24 bases: 9 in the municipality of Dolo, 4 in the municipality of Vigonovo, 10 in the municipality of Saonara and 1 in the municipality of Padua. The removal activities were preceded by an intense dialogue between Terna and the Civil Engineers of Venice to define the best methods for demolishing the foundations of the pylons, located within the state-owned areas near the Padua-sea waterway. The construction sites will target the restoration of the state of the places as ante operam and have a duration of approximately 15 weeks.

“There is enormous satisfaction because this is a story that I have been following for many years and I could not wait to be able to solve it. Finally today we are living this great moment because we are demolishing the structure that should have supported the power line by air”, so Roberto Marcato, Councilor for Economic Development and Energy of the Veneto Region, who continued: “The intervention has a strong symbolic value. There was a great collaboration between the region and Terna and it was a really important team effort. This – he concluded – is a necessary infrastructure that we do in the respect for the environment and respect for local communities: an enormous result “.

The new project of the 380kV Dolo-Camin underground cable line, outcome of the memorandum of understanding signed by Terna and the Veneto Region in January 2019, was initiated for authorization on 22 October 2020 and provides for an investment of 140 million euros. The intervention is aimed at improving the reliability and quality of the electricity service. The new power line will have a length of approximately 16.5 km and will allow the demolition of almost 32 km of existing overhead power lines. 123 pylons will be dismantled and about 95 hectares of land freed from electrical infrastructures.

“The future is here but the future has already begun some time ago because we signed a memorandum of understanding with the Veneto region that saw us committed to innovating the regional electricity system as a whole”, he recalled Adel Motawi, head of Terna’s administrative processes, who added: “The region coordinated a technical table that saw the participation of all the municipalities and this allowed us to define together the project as sustainable as possible. We also held public meetings, so the citizens were also involved, and we were able to collect those elements of territorial sensitivity that allowed us to design the best project for the territory “.

Terna, which at regional level manages over 5,100 km of lines and 63 power stations, as part of the 2021-2025 Business Plan “Driving Energy“, will invest in Veneto over 370 million euros for the development and resilience of the regional electricity grid, depending on the energy transition of which the company is a protagonist. Of the total investment, approximately 130 million euros are allocated to modernization and resilience of existing assets. Satisfaction was also expressed by the mayor of Vigonovo, Andrea Danieletto, who recalled: “We are the spokespersons of the citizens and it is the citizens who have always asked us to have an underground power line rather than an overhead”.
