(ANSA) – CARACAS, AUGUST 12 – “TikTok has just suspended my account and I will not be able to broadcast until August 19,” said Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a speech broadcast on state television. Maduro had accused the social network of fomenting a “civil war” in Venezuela. He also attacked its “managers and owners” because they “support fascism in Latin America and the world.” The Venezuelan president called the platform “responsible for the arrival of Milei and fascists” in Argentina, as TikTok – in his opinion – has “an alliance with fascism.” After suspending X for 10 days on August 9, accusing its owner Elon Musk of inciting hatred and fascism, Maduro had said in recent days that TikTok and Instagram were also “multipliers of hatred” in Venezuela. Maduro finally assured that social networks are being used to attack his re-election, considered a fraud by the opposition, which claims the victory of its candidate Edmundo González Urrutia. (ANSA).
