“It is a historic decision for the people of Venezuela,” said Barboza. “We choose the next president of the Republic.” The announcement comes after days of internal divisions in the opposition over the unitary candidacy. Urrutia was president of the Democratic Unity Table (MUD) party, later replaced by the PUD, and his candidacy was provisional, while another candidate was defined. The deadline for replacing candidates on the electoral ballot ends this Saturday.
