A few days before the presidential elections in Venezuela, the leader of the opposition, Maria Corina Machado, He denounced this Thursday through his social networks an attack against their campaign vehicles in the town of Barquisimeto, stating that one unit had its engine oil emptied and another had its brake hoses cut.

He described the incident as an attack against him and pointed to the current president Nicolas Maduro and their government as responsible for any damage to their physical integrity.

“This morning, an attack was committed against me and my team in Barquisimeto, Lara state. Our cars were vandalized and the brake hoses were cut… Maduro’s campaign is violence and is responsible for any damage to our physical integrity. They will not stop us,” Corina Machado shared.

In the same publication a video is added where you can see the vandalized vehicles, with blows and messages against him.

After the incident, the leader along with the Venezuelan opposition demanded that National Electoral Council and the international community to not ignore this type of events. Machado’s complaint adds to a series of arrests of 72 citizens and opposition activists, which has caused global concern.

Maria Corina Machado declared herself the winner of the opposition primaries in October 2023, even though she could register her candidacy due to the already present candidacy of Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, Machado therefore became the main driving force behind González Urrutia’s campaign.

On the other hand, in these elections the current president Nicolas Maduro seeks to secure a third term for another six years, for which he constantly accuses the opposition of conspiring to overthrow him.
