Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that he will stop using WhatsApp and will use Telegram and ⁣WeChat, urging his followers⁣ to‍ do the same.

“How many of you have been threatened by criminals? In what way? ⁤Today I will publicly cut off ⁤my ties with WhatsApp because it is used to threaten​ Venezuela.⁢ I​ will delete it from my⁤ phone and transfer my contacts to Telegram ​and​ WeChat. This is essential. Say⁢ no to WhatsApp! ​It has ‍fallen from Venezuela. There ⁣are‌ criminals who threaten young people and leaders​ in⁣ Colombia, Miami, Peru, and Chile.” Maduro said in a meeting with​ his‍ supporters,⁤ according to VTV.

He claimed‌ that threats via WhatsApp have been sent to the ‌military, police, and‌ street leaders in Venezuela, ‍as well ⁢as to those who oppose the government.

Earlier, during a meeting with⁣ military personnel, Maduro criticized TikTok, Instagram, ​and WhatsApp, accusing ​them of spreading ‌hatred in Venezuela.

Venezuela experienced widespread protests following the‌ announcement​ of‍ President ​Nicolas⁣ Maduro’s victory in a new presidential ​term, despite the opposition disputing the ​results and alleging ⁤fraud.
