The government of Amazonas said it had asked the Federal Police for help in identifying whether there are Venezuelans among the victims of the landslide that occurred last Sunday night (12) in the east zone of Manaus.

Until 2 pm this Monday (13), eight bodies had been found, four adults and four children. Among the eight victims, four would be of Venezuelan origin. The bodies were taken to the Legal Medical Institute.

The Military Fire Brigade of Amazonas informed the Sheet that there is no record of more family members looking for missing people, but he added that the work will continue until the end of the day, with the removal of clay and remains of houses. “Only after the conclusion of this stage can the searches be considered closed”, said the corporation, in a note.

Three other people were rescued alive, receiving first aid from firefighters on site. Videos show that people from the community helped in the searches and rescue of victims.

More than 70 people had their homes affected. They were housed in a church and, according to the city of Manaus, would be transferred to a school this Monday.

The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida (Avante), and the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (UniĆ£o Brasil), went to the place to monitor the relief work.

The area where the landslide occurred is located in the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood and is classified as high risk for housing. In a press interview, the mayor of Manaus said that there are 62 similar ones in the city.

Almeida said he will declare a state of public calamity due to the heavy rains that hit the city. According to him, in the region of the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood, “there were 96 millimeters of rain, well above average”.

According to him, the Civil Defense received 110 calls on Sunday, but none from the affected area. “We had 110 calls yesterday [domingo].
