The story in images of the project – awarded by President Mattarella – which creates violins and other musical instruments in prisons with the wood of migrant boats

The documentary “Metamorphosis: a song of the sea” was presented at the 79th Venice Film Festival, which describes the project developed by the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation together with the Excise, Customs and Monopoly Agency (ADM) and the Penitentiary Administration Department (Dap) which was awarded the Medal of the President of the Italian Republic for the high social value and legality of which it is the bearer. The short film starts from the activity of Adm of identification and recovery of boats abandoned in Lampedusa by migrants. The boats from which it is possible to recover the timber are subsequently donated to the lutherie workshop of the Opera prison where the inmates make musical instruments. It is an example of circular economy, but above all of a virtuous system that transfers the tragedies and hopes of migrants into the expert hands of detained violin makers, to transform the wood of the journey into many musical instruments of an orchestra, the Orchestra del Mare, which evokes the sound of solidarity, welcome and integration. «The documentary tells the stories of the boats of migrants that become Orchestra del Mare. a project of which we are enormously proud and proud, awarded with the medal of representation of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella »explains the general manager of Adm, Marcello Minenna.
