After the devastating bus accident in Venice, a doctor from Leipzig started a fundraising campaign for the husband and two children of a woman from the trade fair city who was killed. Frank Radowsky told the German Press Agency that 45,000 euros have now been donated. “We want to make life a little easier for the family afterwards.” According to the Leipziger Volkszeitung, the 33-year-old husband and the two children (4 and 13 years old) were seriously injured in the accident and are being treated in a hospital.

The accident occurred on Tuesday evening in the mainland district of Mestre in the lagoon city of Venice. The shuttle bus from a campsite in the Marghera district – around three kilometers from the scene of the accident – with many day holidaymakers on board fell from a bridge onto a railway line underneath. The vehicle immediately caught fire. Three German citizens were among the 21 fatalities, including the 32-year-old from Leipzig.

The 32-year-old has worked as a medical assistant in the practice for six years, said Radowsky. Three years ago the husband joined as a medical assistant. “I played football with him every week in my free time,” emphasized the doctor. He also knew about the vacation and the planned trip by bus to the lagoon city. “I had hope: Please don’t let her be in there.”

The fundraising campaign will continue, emphasized Radowsky. “Two children, a single dad, you can use every euro, for everything, over and over again, even for the next few years.”
