The pianist and composer originally from Prato Giulia Mazzoni announces her return to the music scene with Wildness, available from Friday 8 September on all digital platforms.

The piece, written in just 48 hours, will be the main theme of ‘Anna’, the new film by director Marco Amenta – winner of several international awards – which will be presented on 8 September in absolute preview at the eightieth edition of the Giornate degli Autori of the Venice Film Festival. Anna was written by Marco Amenta and Niccolò Stazzi, with the screenplay by them together with Anna Mittone and the collaboration of Tania Pedroni; protagonists are Rose Aste, Daniele Monachella and Marco Zucca.

Giulia Mazzoni composed the soundtrack of the entire film, managing to emphasize the emotions that the director wanted to convey with Anna and perfectly transforming the images of the film into music, whose protagonist is beautiful, wild and magnetic like the uncontaminated nature of her native Sardinia . Anna is a woman who doesn’t want to lower her head and fights not to be crushed, she doesn’t want to be a victim but she’s not a hero either. The difficult emotions that she had to face in the course of her life marked her, but today Anna is a free woman who no longer wants to be afraid.

“When I received the call from Marco Amenta I was surprised and hypnotized by the story that he asked me to set to music.” says Giulia Mazzoni. “I still remember the first adjective he used to describe the protagonist Anna to me:“ wild ”. When I saw the film I felt very close to this strong, rebellious, wild but also magnetic woman. The inspiration came immediately visceral and immediate. I wrote the music in 48 hours and on the third day I was already in the studio recording it with a string quartet that I wanted made up of only women. “Wildness”, the central piece of the film, is indeed a manifesto music for the courage to be yourself and defend our values, roots, who we are. I wrote free, daring music that doesn’t give up just like Anna, just like me. I too am wild and all this has united us, it has created a very strong bond between us that I have tried to fix forever with the notes of my piano”.

Wildness, mixed at the Sonoria studio in Prato by Francesca Baldi, is an unpublished composition for piano and string quartet. The pianist wanted to call a quartet of female professionals to her side for the performance and recording of the piece: Angela Tomei on first violin, Angela Savi on second violin, Luna Michele on viola, Laura Gorkoff on cello. What resulted is a dreamy and dreamlike piece, an unpublished story in music, a journey inside our emotions. Listening to Wildness releases the wild nature that is within us, the fire that we must not repress but feed and cherish. It is a manifesto of freedom against all labels and prejudices. Just like Anna, the protagonist of the film of the same name, and the nature in the background, Giulia Mazzoni makes us feel free and uncontaminated with Wildness.

The pianist is currently working on a new project which will soon be available on all digital platforms. It is an international production with the collaboration of Thom Russo, winner of 16 Grammy Awards.
