Veronica Yoko Plebani wins the silver medal in the PTS2 triathlon event, finishing just behind American Danz and improving on the bronze she won in Tokyo.
An immense joy: “I still can’t believe it,” she says at the finish line, against the lavish backdrop of the Pont Alexandre III, “it was a very tough race, but I learned how to manage myself and never stopped believing in this medal. During the 750 meters in the Seine, I took so many punches, I couldn’t see the buoys, visibility was very low, but I stayed focused the whole time. Especially thanks to the tuff that gave me a huge boost. Along the route, there were 80 of my friends; this medal is for them, who are a true shower of love. I have been through tough years when I thought about giving up because triathlon is an extremely tough sport for certain disabilities, and if the surrounding environment does not support you, it becomes very difficult. But then I changed, and the environment helped me to bloom again.”
Veronica is unstoppable but knows this is her last triathlon race: “I want something new; I am going to remarry, and during my vacation, I will consider the thousand ideas I have in mind.”
