“Very concerned”: The country will investigate how Western technology reached Iran

Russia-Ukraine War: The Canadian authorities have announced that an official investigation has been opened to examine how parts produced in the country made their way to Iranian drones used by the Russian army in Ukraine, Al Jazeera reported today (Tuesday). This, by direct order of the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In the meantime, local media reported that the European Research Center “State Watch” and the authorities in Kyiv found antenna components manufactured by the Ottawa-based “Talisman Wireless” company, in Shahad-136 drones, which are in Russia’s drone arsenal in Ukraine. The Canadian Prime Minister said that “We are certainly very concerned about the reports. We do not want Canadian technology to be a part of Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine, or the Iranian contribution to the war.”

Trudeau added that “the Canadian company is fully cooperating with the investigation. We are following it to try to determine exactly, how, and which products ended up in places they should not have gone, such as the Iranian regime.”

As you may recall, last November the Wall Street Journal reported that infrared lenses manufactured in Israel were found along with more than 200 other components from the US, Europe and other allied countries in Iranian drones used by Russia in the invasion of Ukraine. About three-quarters of the drones’ components were American-made, according to Ukrainian documents presented to the journal by the non-profit Independent Anti-Corruption Commission. Ukrainian researchers made the discovery while examining downed Iranian-made drones, including the Iranian Mohajer drone. -6, which broke in the middle of the flight and landed unharmed.

Earlier that month, Iran admitted for the first time that it transferred a “limited amount” of drones to Russia before the war that broke out in Ukraine. But it emphasized that our country “will have a reaction” if it confirms that Moscow used its drones in Ukraine. The Iranian Foreign Minister claimed that “our position towards the war in Ukraine is to end the war, return the parties to negotiations and return the refugees to their homes.” According to him, “Iran agreed to talk with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, so that he could provide them with evidence of Russian use of Tehran-made missiles on the territory of their country – but due to pressure from the United States and Germany, the conversation has not yet taken place.”
